Defects/Bug

Defect is a result of an error. Deviation from Specification.(Bug is basically a slang we use for defect.)

In 1947 there was a moth found in a relay of a relay calculator which was being tested at HarvardUniversity. The operators affixed the moth to the computer log and commented as they have debugged the machine. This was the first actual case of a first computer bug being found. Seems Strange

Failures

Defect results into a failure of the system.

So would you like to have a failure prone system or would you fix the defect and avoid the failure of the system itself.

In January 1998 a production line got shut down when the laser-driven printer was printing date of expiry as January 2000. Do you know why? It was because of Y2K. Remember what Y2K was.

Rather being a subset of the software industry, now software testing is an industry in itself.

Testing is a process of confirming that the product that has been manufactured by programmers is a quality product and to assure that the manufactured product is working according to the specification and satisfying the customer needs.
